ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR: Business and Finance
General Description:
Responsible for the management and reporting of the financial position and activity for a non-profit organization with assets in excess of $40 million and an operating budget in excess of $2.8 million. Responsible for preparing and maintaining all Delaware Nature Society’s accounting records by managing the general ledger, sub-ledgers and overseeing the bookkeeper to assure accurate accounting and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares financial reports to support management and report financial position and activity to external stakeholders. Works with the executive director to prepare the annual budget and salary plan. Safeguards the Society’s assets by enforcing sound internal controls, performing account reconciliation, and facilitating the annual audit. Performs tax reporting, property records, and vendor relations. Provides oversight of the Society’s investment positions.

Manages human resource programs and functions, maintains personnel records and policies and processes payroll. Coordinates services with benefit providers while keeping abreast of the state and federal regulations. Administers the Society’s benefit program and salary structure and conducts salary and benefits surveys every three years. Manages other business functions for the Society including (but not limited to) grant support, contract review and insurance and risk management. Manages financial planning for capital projects and facilities assessment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with minimum five years experience
  • Knowledge of non-profit net asset accounting
  • Experience with human resources, programs and procedures
  • Excellent verbal, written and organizational skills
  • Good judgment and ability to negotiate with good rapport
  • Willingness to work in a team environment
  • High dependability
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Basic computer skills: word processing, spread sheet and database management experience

BACKYARD HABITAT COORDINATOR: Abbott's Mill
General Description:
Part time position manages and promotes the Backyard Habitat program in Kent & Sussex counties to educate citizens about non-point source pollution impacts, and their roles in pollution reduction and wildlife habitat enhancement. Recruits program participants and oversees certification of Backyard Wildlife Habitat sites. Responsible for recruitment, training, and ongoing development of Habitat Steward volunteers. Promotes watershed stewardship programming and leads watershed related educational programming at Abbott’s Mill. Maintains and develops demonstration garden.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) in natural sciences, environmental management, or other appropriate field
  • Three years experience in natural resource conservation;
  • Familiarity with land use, non-point source pollution and horticulture basics
  • Strong writing, public relations, public speaking and organizational skills
  • Event coordination and program development experience
  • Computer database and word processing skills

COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA): Seasonal Opening
Help needed May -September in large vegetable garden. 40 hours per week paid position. Experience helpful, but not necessary. This motivated person will be involved in all aspects of a small vegetable CSA including planting, weeding, harvesting, and cleaning vegetables.
